Te Whanau O Te Maungarongo is an established social services provider delivering a range of specialist counselling services and programmes to support individuals (men and women), tamariki, rangatahi and wh?nau affected by family violence. Their services include relationship and grief counselling services and individual and group programmes for violent offenders.
Te Whanau O Te Maungarongo are a bicultural organisation located on the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be responsible for the coordination, facilitation and provision of the Non-Violence and Safety programmes for individuals and wh?nau.
You will provide therapeutic intervention to men, women and their wh?nau who have been impacted by the effects of family violence, assist to educate and develop wh?nau's consciousness of the impacts of family harm, and deliver Non-Violence and Safety programmes to individuals and groups which are designed to recognise and encourage participant behavioural change.
Key Job responsibilities:
   » Meeting with clients and wh?nau, conducting initial client assessment to determine their needs, and recommend appropriate services and programmes
   » Deliver individual and/or group non-violence and safety programmes and therapeutic intervention using strength-located model
   » Monitor, assess and manage the behaviour and safety of clients
   » Work with clients, perpetrators and inmates and encourage them to attend recommended intervention, and motivate them to make changes to their behaviour
   » Monitor and track individual and group attendance and participation
   » Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure clients receive appropriate interventions and holistic wraparound service
   » You will be a skilled and practiced kai?whinawith a strengths-located approach, integrity in your mahi, strong communication expertise and commitment to working safely and respectfully with vulnerable people.
You will be a passionate, energetic kai?whina with the capability to connect to tamariki, rangatahi and their wh?nau.
This is a permanent position located in Central Lower Hutt. Hours available between 30-40 per week (Monday to Friday). Te Whanau O Te Maungarongo are offering continuing professional development and paid monthly clinical/peer supervision.
You will possess anon-judgmental, mana-enhancing, empathetic attitude towards people and have a strong belief that people are capable of change. Information technology is essential that you are willing to listen, to seek to understand the needs behind the behaviour and to create a safe space for healing.
Person Profile :
   » Proven practice in a face-to-face function dealing with vulnerable adults and children, ideally within the domestic/family violence field
   » practice facilitating individual and group programme
   » Adept at recognising risks connected with family violence, child abuse, and mental health challenges
   » Working knowledge or knowledge of prison policy, procedures and rules would be highly desirable
   » capability to work in a culturally responsive manner and relate to a diverse range of people from all walks of life, backgrounds, cultures and ethnicities
   » A strong commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and/or knowledge and practice working in a Kaupapa Maori environment
   » Able to work effectively under pressure in a challenging environment
   » Good organisational and time management expertise, with capability to manage a busy caseload
   » capability to work collaboratively with others and contribute as part of wider team
   » Highly intuitive and sensitive to others needs
   » Have an open, respectful and empathetic manner
   » capability to remain professional, confidential and impartial at all times
   » Good self-care and self-consciousness expertise, able to set good boundaries
   » Must have a full and clean NZ Driver's Licence and access to a reliable car
   » Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, email, database)
   » A tertiary qualification in social work, counselling, psychology or related discipline is desirable but not essential
