The function
The primary purpose of this function is to progress the MHF mission by developing and promoting commentary, policy submissions, position statements and advocacy communications.
This position sits within the Policy and Advocacy team, which is a small, thoughtful and hardworking team who are responsible foradvocating for change in social conditions, policies and services that affect mental health by influencing government and decision-makers and helping to shape public commentary.
They pride themselves in effective collaboration, critical thinking and a passion for social and system change. this function will suit someone who is open-minded, professional, curious, and who has practice working with the government or with other thought-leadership abilities organisations.
On a day to day basis, you will:
   » Work collaboratively to research and produce policy statements and submissions on a variety of topics related to mental health and wellbeing.
   » Support the development of a wide variety of advocacy communications that are compelling, persuasive and accurate.
   » Provide advice and guidance on policy issues to MHF leadership abilities.
   » Develop trust-located relationships and alliances with stakeholders, networks and decision-makers.
   » Think strategically to develop and adapt advocacy tactics and messages.
   » Stay up to date with the latest research, and think critically about changing political, social and economic factors that may impact on mental health and wellbeing results.
   » Support and backup your team as needed
A great candidate will have:
   » practice as a policy analyst in either government or NGOs.
   » practice gathering, analysing, interpreting and reporting on a variety of data types.
   » Excellent communication skills
   » Skills in building and maintaining effective relationships with internal staff and external stakeholders
   » Thought leadership abilities practice in public health, social policy or related areas.
   » Interest in or expertise of?Te?Reo M?ori and?te?ao M?ori.

The income band for this function is $77,000 – $87,000 and will be commensurate to the prosperous candidate’s skills and practice for the function.
