About our Group
The Secondary Tertiary team sits within the Early Learning and Student Achievement Group (ELSA) and covers the transition from senior secondary through to tertiary and employment.
ELSA delivers and maintains critical services to support responsive learner pathways from early childhood into further education, training, the workforce and society. ELSA performs a crucial function working between the strategy and policy teams, and the sector facing functions. The Secondary Tertiary team is responsible for operational policy, curriculum and support programmes for Year 11-13 learners, and the secondary-tertiary interface. This includes senior secondary curriculum, NCEA (including implementing the NCEA Review changes through the Review of Achievement Standards (RAS)) and secondary-tertiary programmes.
Lead Adviser function
The Akonga Maori Lead Adviser function will lead one of four workstreams within the Akonga Maori team.
Here you will:
   » lead policy
   » design, implement and deliver curriculum and assessment content
   » focus on akonga/students’ achievements
   » provide leadership abilities and guidance in English and Maori medium education
   » practice best pedagogy in design, development, and delivery
   » prosperously engage, communicate, and facilitate wananga with Maori whanau, hapu, iwi and communities and will lead collaborative working relationships
   » engage with key stakeholders to design and develop initiatives, products and services to ensure that desirable outcome is achieved.
About the person:
   » Have prior stakeholder engagement practice as you will be working with the wider ELSA team and Ministry
   » You will work consistently to established timeframes, managing own input and ensuring others’ contributions are made to enable work to progress
   » Familiar knowledge and knowledge of sensitive cultural values and have a good knowledge of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
   » You will be able to articulate an knowledge of Mana orite mo te matauranga Maori as Information technology applies to NCEA
   » Your interpersonal expertise and superior writing expertise will complement your capability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders as a representative of the Ministry
practice and Appropriate qualifications:
   » Candidates will ideally have an broad background in middle to senior leadership abilities functions within the NZ secondary sector and/or practice in facilitating diverse groups
   » A Tertiary qualification in a significant discipline which reflects an knowledge of the National Curriculum and assessment and NZ Diploma of Teaching (or equivalent)
   » Mena he matatau ki te reo Maori me ona tikanga, he wana ake tera
   » A deep knowledge of current pedagogical practice and NCEA related assessment practice is necessary
