The function/Te mahi
We are pursuing to appoint a permanent full-time Professional Practice Fellow in Primary Education; our hope is to attract candidates who can teach from an integrated curriculum perspective. The prosperous candidate would ideally bring special skills in the English and Mathematics curriculum areas and in te reo and tikanga M?ori in the primary education sector. Flexibility in teaching in a variety of areas of the curriculum is highly desirable.
Responsibilities of the function include:
   » Supporting teaching in the primary education curriculum of the Bachelor of Teaching and Master of Teaching and Learning degrees. This includes preparation, assessment, teaching and paper administration tasks under the supervision of the course coordinators and the Programme Coordinator (Primary).
   » Supervising students on professional practice placements.
   » Contributing to campus whanaungatanga, and the department’s academic goals by applying and sharing expert expertise in the professional discipline of education.
   » Recognising k? hap? o ?t?kou r?naka – values, tikanga (processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions of our manawhenua and K?i Tahu iwi, and valuing Te Reo M?ori me k? tikaka in course content.
   » Consulting and working with the College of Education M?ori studies coordinator and appropriate staff to ensure courses develop cultural confidence and competence in graduates.
You will be supported through a collegial academic environment, an active and dynamic research culture, and through efficient professional services across the University. The opportunity exists within this position to pursue doctoral study at the College of Education.

To be prosperous in this key function, you will have:
   » New Zealand teacher registration and current full practising certificate.
   » significant professional qualification in teaching.
   » A Master’s degree.
   » capability to teach the pedagogical content expertise related to the learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum, with preference given to the English and Mathematics curriculum.
   » significant professional practice in a primary school setting.
   » Evidence of an capability to work well with students and staff, especially from differing academic and cultural backgrounds.
   » A demonstrated commitment to te reo M?ori, tikanga M?ori, tangata whenuatanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership and relationships in teaching and learning and to equal opportunity.
   » Proficiency in te reo M?ori and expertise of M?ori and/or Pasifika education is desirable.
