M?ori Pathways - Hawkes Bay is one of three key trial areas that are part of a four-year programme which has been co-designed with wh?nau, hap?, iwi M?ori: external organisations and individuals independent of Ara Poutama Aotearoa.
The programme represents an opportunity to shape a new way of working with culturally grounded solutions and innovations that supports our H?kai Rangi strategy, whilst also creating a new approach toward the evolving changes taking place within the criminal justice system. By working collaboratively with community agencies, Hawkes Bay M?ori Pathways strives to find new and innovative ways to achieve better results for M?ori, wh?nau and their communities.

Our Pou Arahi function is one of those opportunities. Working at Hawkes Bay Regional Prison and out in the community, this function you will see you working closely with staff to support tangata to connect or reconnect with wh?nau, hap? and iwi, to establish good support systems.
You will work to identify the different iwi and hap? that tangata affiliate to, ensuring that they are registered with that iwi / hap? formally. You will deliver robust and effective reintegration plans for our tangata by working with them and their wh?nau to establish and maintain effective contact, providing reintegrative support through a Tikanga M?ori framework.

We are seeking for someone who actively supports the goal of reducing re-offending and supporting tangata to lead pro social lives within their communities.
You will have had previous practice in using Tikanga M?ori in delivering results incorporating the capability to network and build effective communications with iwi, mana whenua groups, whanau ora and other organisations to assist the rehabilitative and reintegrative needs of our tangata.
You will display an knowledge of professional standards (confidentiality, informed consent, maintaining boundaries, professional detachment etc).
Ideally, you will have a formal qualification in social work, counselling or a significant field. Knowledge of Te Reo me ona tikanga would also be an advantage.
 
The income band for this function is $65,786 – $79, 771. Your starting income will be determined by your expertise and practice.
