Information technology is the promoter and guardian of our brand, our reputation and the conversations that theatre allows us to have - those that challenge and excite, reflect and project a world we are excited to be part of. The Artistic Director has passion for what we do and how we can make the lives of all in our community better for their participation and engagement with us and our artform. The Artistic Director will be a person of unquestionable integrity, who is generous with all who call The Court ?wh?nau?. The Artistic Director will be excited about our bespoke new home in the City that will open in November 2024 and will work with the Chief Executive on how to make the most of the incredible spaces and places. this function is for a 5-year contract. Job responsibilities: » Be the major voice for artistic excellence, vibrancy, excitement and serving our community through Theatre for Aotearoa. » Work closely with the Chief Executive to create and implement effective strategic plans for the company that fulfil its artistic ambition and organisational mission: an innovative artistic policy and programme, development of new audiences, financial sustaincapability, environmental sustaincapability and actively covering the creative cases diversity and collaboration. » Promote and maintain the organisational culture, reflecting and enhancing The Court Theatre's position as the leading contributor to the New Zealand arts and theatre sector. » Ensure literary management and dramaturgy are of high quality and reflect the company's mission in relation to contemporary international playwrights. » Consider productions that are appropriate for sustainable touring across New Zealand and internationally as appropriate. » Engage appropriate directors, artists and technicians in the realisation of The Court Theatre's repertoire, authenticity and diverse community. » Identify and nurture collaborative partnerships with other arts organisations and artists. expertise & practice: » A strong theatre background » practice providing artistic leadership abilities » Visionary and strategic leadership abilities » practice leading prosperous teams, and promoting team decision-making » practice contributing to a senior leadership abilities team, delivering the company's mission » A natural collaborator » A focus on excellence » Stakeholder engagement and the capability to develop new partnerships » A genuine and demonstrable commitment to broadening of cultural diversity and access across all areas of the company » Tertiary qualification in a significant field advantages: » Be part of New Zealand's premier theatre company » Join a team of highly skilled people who are resilient and flexible learners » An organisation with a promising looking future, and a new home under development in the city About the Employer : Currently hidden in Christchurch's suburb of Addington is New Zealand's largest theatre company. In its post-earthquake refuge ?The Shed? - an old grain shed - there is a magical world of happiness, laughter, drama and intrigue. Inside the walls of ?The Shed? is a diverse and dynamic company of 60 permanent staff plus hundreds of artists and artisans who produce some 19 productions each year. Over 150,000 ticket buyers enter The Court each year to feast on the varied offering of theatrical works, created and produced on-site. The Court has matched the ever-diversifying Christchurch population and creates and supports work for everyone in our community including children and families, for Tangata Whenua and for Christchurch's growing Pasifika communities. We have a strong education programme and we support new writing for theatre. In November 2024 The new Court Theatre in the city will open and a strong new season will be announced. There is much for the Artistic Director and team to do. Underpinning this is the mandate of Theatre for Aotearoa, for our region and our city.
