About the function
This Museum and Exhibition Centre complex is part of a larger civic and cultural precinct
development for the city of Tauranga. (Te Manawataki o Te Papa Civic Redevelopment
programme).

The new Museum and Exhibition Centre complex will be approximately 6,700 square metres (Collections are stored o?-site), and architects are currently completing Preliminary Design. The public opening is expected in late 2026.

As a Director of the Museum and Exhibition Centre you will lead the establishment of a new Museum complex and the focus will be driving the delivery of a Detailed Project Plan (2023 - 2027).

This outlines the architectural design and construction deliverables, and all other intrinsically
related activities across; creating the core project team, project related strategy and policy, project
related process, all content and collection development/design/production/installation, commercial
business development, post project operations/service delivery, and post project economic
sustaincapability.

Tauranga is a fast-growing city and is the lifestyle capital of the nation. Council expects the new
Museum complex to execute as a highly prosperous New Zealand metropolitan Museum.
The Museum development project's brief is in place with an Interpretive Master Plan, and
Commercial Model is completed.

The Museum's overall themes are:
• The history and modern life of the Bay of Plenty, the region's unique and fertile
environment, and the relationship between nature and culture.
• Bringing the best of the rest of the world to the Bay of Plenty.
• The innovation that drives Tauranga and the region.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will enjoy a fast paced and creative project environment. They will have an
inclusive and decisive leadership abilities style, with a good track record of creating and managing teams
within a project context.

They will be able to apply a scienti?c underpinning to the work. They will also need to apply a
strong empathic knowledge of prosperous visitor practices; from core customer service,
through the largest exhibition genres.

practice with the project direction of creating a new museum or similar cultural/tourism
complex, would be highly desirable. Committing to, and knowledge the principles of the Treaty
of Waitangi will be essential for the function.
