About our group and learning support team
Our teams around the country work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, skills and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential.
About this function
As an Adviser on Deaf Children (AODC), you will play a critical function in our Learning Support team by:
   » Providing specialist support to babies and children who are deaf or hard of hearing
   » Providing professional support and guidance to families and whanau, schools and preschools, and teaching teams; and building the capacity of those who are best placed to support the learning of these babies and children
   » Providing appropriate specialist intervention plans
   » Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex
To be prosperous you will need the following:
   » To want to make a real difference in children and young people’s lives
   » To be keen to join a passionate Learning Support team, located in Christchurch, covering the Canterbury area
   » A Masters of Special Education (Sensory Disabilities/Hearing Impairment) or a Diploma of Adviser on Deaf and Hearing Impaired Children. If you do not have either of those qualifications but you have a Teacher of the Deaf or Speech and Language Therapist (or equivalent qualification) with at least two years’ practice in that function, you will be considered.
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
   » expertise and practice in language, communication, and child development
   » practice and expertise of New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) or a commitment to learning NZSL
   » A current full driver’s licence
