K?rero m? te t?ranga – About the function
?whina is located within the Office of the DVC M?ori. The function of ?whina is to provide cultural and academic support programmes to enhance the retention and achievement of M?ori students studying at Te Herenga Waka (Victoria University of Wellington). You’ll use your knowledge of cultural and ?whina provides a robust outreach programme designed to encourage and motivate M?ori students to consider tertiary education as a career path.
Key responsibilities include the following:
   » Deliver high quality, appropriate and up-to-date programmes effectively, with clear planning, review processes and delivery schedules in place
   » Relate to, support and engage students in ?whina activity that complements and fosters their academic journey for academic success
   » Ensure high-quality record keeping and reporting systems are put in place to monitor progress and make improvements where needed
   » Develop and maintain key relationships with Mai ki P?neke, Academics, Professional staff and key stakeholders
M?u – About you
You will be a motivated, customer-focused individual who can take the initiative, provide excellent administration and policy compliance.
You will thrive in this function with an excellent manner with people, and a capability to influence and manage conflict, strong attention to detail, and self-management skills. this function is busy, challenging, extremely compensateing.
You will be a highly organised self-starter and natural relationship builder, who relishes working autonomously as well as contributing positively to a high performing team. You will need effective time management and forward planning to balance meeting deadlines and maintain a high standard of service to both students and staff. The capability to remain calm under pressure and thrive working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Key Requirements:
   » Sound knowledge and knowledge of Tikanga M?ori, and the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an educational context
   » Proven practice in a significant educational function such as academic learning support, teaching or mentoring.
   » Proven knowledge and practice in data collection, data analysis, evaluation and report writing.
   » Proven capability in dealing with people and establishing excellent working relationships.
