The Govett-Brewster | Len Lye Centre is a contemporary art museum of the Pacific, located inNg?motuNew Plymouth, Taranaki, with an international reputation and reach. Founded on the vision of New Plymouth-bornMonica Brewsterand her aspirations for an art museum for her city, the Gallery continues to build on its 50 year legacy of presenting bold and innovative national and international art that explores and celebrates who we are - our people, our place, our communities, our cultures, our histories and our knowledge of the world.
We are offering an exceptional short term two month residency for a Pacific Public Programs Coordinator, funded by Creative New Zealand. A pilot for the Gallery and Creative New Zealand, the residency aims to provide professional development for a Pasifika artist or arts sector professional, the Gallery and community working together to support Pacific arts creation and engagement.
Reporting to the Director, this function providesmanaakitangainbuilding knowledge of and provide a supportive and stimulating environment for Pacific arts practitioners and community and to research, develop and deliver programmes that create opportunities for Pasifika artists and culture in Taranaki and Aotearoa New Zealand that engages a diverse range of audiences.
this function is for candidates of Pacific Island heritage/identity, evidencing knowledge of Kaupapa Pasifika and requires being located in inNg?motu New Plymouth for a total of two months during 2021, with some flexibility of timing. Your will work with the adjunct Curator Public Engagement, Curator Public Engagement and Director to contact with the Taranaki Pasifika community and Pacific artists to explore how the Gallery can better serve the Pacific arts sector and Pacific audiences, assist in creating connections and networks with the Pacific arts sector and contribute to programming that involves and increases consciousness of Pacific artists and engages community.
Candidates should have an knowledge of best practice research, be an accomplished communicator with sound interpersonal expertise and a warm professional approach, and be a good ambassador with communities and a diverse range of external stakeholders in Aotearoa. You will be a collaborative team member and well organized, and able to work autonomously. You will also support the organizational values of Mana Tangata, Oranga Tangata, Kotahitanga and H?paitanga.
To be prosperous in this function, you will have an knowledge of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, biculturalism and concept of Va and aligned with the Govett-Brewster's kaupapa.
At Te Kaunihera-?-rohe o Ng?motu / New Plymouth District Council we aim to create and sustain a truly compensateing workplace environment for our staff, and provide the Coordinator's communications and people support. On the ground costs of engagement, accommodation and materials and return travel are supported by Creative New Zealand, as well as the Coordinator fee of $12,000.
