?When I came to jail I thought my life was over. There’s nothing out there for me anymore. I’ve ruined my life, I won’t be able to get a job, I’ve lost everything coming to prison ? from this broken mess Kia Rite picked me up and put me back on the path where I should be.? (Young, M?ori Kia Rite graduate serving her first prison sentence)
Kia Rite (which translates to ?get ready?) is a behaviour expertise programme aimed at supporting women to understand prison routines as well as providing them with some key expertise and knowledge to support them while they are in prison and also when they return to the community.
As the Kia Rite Facilitator you will be responsible for supporting women when they first arrive in prison. You will support the intake processes in each prison, working closely with the Pou Tuhono to provide options for Maori women entering prison as well as supporting the Case Managers to facilitate reintegration referrals or supports. You will facilitate and deliver Kia Rite as well as promote the programme and encourage women to attend.
We are seeking for a motivated individual with the following:
   » Proven group facilitation expertise and practice
   » The capability to assess and respond to complex issues appropriately
   » The expertise and practice to be able to promote the Kaupapa Maori values and Ara Poutama Practice Framework as the key way of working in the prison
   » Strong relationship building expertise - you will be building and maintaining constructive relationships both inside the prison and outside with Corrections staff and external parties
   » Ideally previous practice working in prisons or working with those who offend in the community
Ideally, you will have a formal qualification in social work, counselling or a significant field. A demonstrated knowledge of tikanga and knowledge of Te Reo would also be an advantage. candidates must have a current full driver’s licence.
