The census is a nationwide survey that takes place every five years and provides a snapshot of everyone in New Zealand. The?goal of the?2023 Census?is to deliver quality census data for New Zealand.?This is even more important for Ma?ori, Pacific and migrant communities, who have historically had lower rates of response and, as a result, have not featured clearly in the data New Zealand used to fund essential services like k?hanga reo, kura kaupapa, local GP health services, community groups, hospitals, housing, roads, and public transport in your local community.
Helping your community to understand this link is crucial and will be a key part of your function.
Te ?hua o Te T?runga – The nature of the position
As a census collector, you will support the delivery of a prosperous 2023 Census by undertaking census field work in an area near you that you are familiar with and/or live in. Representing Stats NZ ?on the doorstep' you will interact engage with and listen to people from a diverse range of cultures, age groups, and socio-economic backgrounds. Delivering and collecting census materials and information to and from households and non-private dwellings, may include hospitals, residential care facilities, campsites etc.
The work involves tasks such as checking and updating address information, delivering and collecting 2023 Census materials and information to and from households and dwellings, and keeping records of your practices in the field.
Enabling and motivating people to take part in the 2023 Census, you will be part of a team of up to 15 and will report directly to a local census team leader. There will be full training provided and you will be well-supported while you are in the field.

expertise required include:
   » Great life expertise and practice.
   » An knowledge of?te?reo me ?na tikanga and/or a Pacific language is highly valued.
   » Have a good knowledge of your local community and are community-focused and culturally aware.
   » Being highly organised with an excellent attention to detail.
   » Level of physical fitness that allows you to walk for long periods of your workday while carrying bags with the required field resources.
   » Able to use a computer and mobile devices (provided to you in your function) and being comfortable using different forms of technology such as email, text, and mobile apps.
   » An capability to communicate confidently, have excellent customer-service expertise and speak confidently to wh?nau groups and members of the public.
   » Being calm when under pressure, able to deal with problems, and work to deadlines.
   » Culturally connected and able to respond to the needs of your local community.
   » capability to work hoursthat have the highest likelihood of contactingrespondents, which may be late afternoon or before standard working hours.
   » The confidence to approach people within their own space/property.
function requirements include :
   » Current New Zealand Driver’s Licence (Restricted Licence minimum), but not essential.
   » Also preferred, but not essential, is access to unrestricted use of a secure roadworthy vehicle with a minimum of third-party insurance that you are willing to use for work.
   » Right to live and work in Aotearoa New Zealand and availability to undergo significant pre-employment checks (essential)
You do not need a corporate or mainstream background to thrive in these positions, and Information technology doesn't matter if you do not have a current CV.
