Auckland Council Te Kaunihera o T?maki Makaurau is seeking expressions of interest to fill two vacancies on the Public Art Advisory Panel.
Auckland's public art celebrates the creativity of T?maki Makaurau, reflecting and expressing the diversity and character of our city. Auckland Council cares for a collection of more than 400 public artworks and develops new works across the region. The Public Art Advisory Panel plays a key function in this work by providing advice, feedback and recommendations on the regional public art work programme.
About the panel
Established in 2014, the panel provides independent, specialist knowledge and advice on public art to the Public Art team and council by extension. The panel has oversight of the regional public artwork programme including new commissions, gift offers and major renewals. The panel is also a forum to discuss priorities for sector investment. Panellists work closely with the Manager of Public Art and public art team, which sits within the Regional Services & Strategy department of council. The key policy documents which support the advisory function of the panel are Auckland Council's Public Art Policy and Toi Wh?tiki Arts and Culture Strategic Action Plan.    » thorough knowledge of the region's creative sector
   » an aspiration to position creativity at the centre of Auckland's growth and transformation
   » an informed view of Auckland's geography and an knowledge of the place-making potential of arts and culture for the city
   » an knowledge of Auckland's rapidly evolving demographics and diverse population, and the opportunities and challenges these pose to the city's development
   » a global perspective on the function creativity plays in creating a world-class city
   » a commitment to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and
   » a robust and transparent approach to actual or perceived conflicts of interest
What is required of the panel?
The panel is made up of 7 - 9 members serving 3 - 5 year terms. There are currently two places available on the panel for new members due to regular membership rotation.
Members are expected to attend monthly, ninety-minute meetings which are held from February - December and are paid a per-meeting rate for their contribution. For background informationplease go to: Public Art Advisory Panel (aucklandcouncil.govt.nz)
Who should apply?
Auckland Council invites individuals from a range of backgrounds to join the panel. This includes creative entrepreneurs, built environment designers or architects, media specialists, cultural commentators, artists, graphic, practice or product designers, curators or programmers. There is also a dedicated place for Te M?ngai Toi. In particular We are pursuing candidates who have practice or skills in showcasing Auckland's M?ori identity and vibrant M?ori culture as outlined in the Auckland Plan.
