Creative Waikato is the arts development organisation for the Waikato Region. We're a high performing team who continue to achieve great things for the arts. We are navigators who lead the elevation of creativity in our region and collaborate to provide opportunities for cultural well-being.
We're looking for a Creative Education specialist to join our Creative Development team. You will work autonomously and as a part of our team, supporting creative people and arts groups with information, training, and development. this function is about building the capcapability within the Waikato education sector to support the delivery of arts, culture and creativity as part of the curriculum, as well as to explore opportunities for local artists to provide support in these areas. Creativity is an inherent part of learning. Whenever we try something new, there is an element of creativity involved. Arts learning practices can be curricular or co-curricular, and within each discipline there can be great variations in the kinds of learning practices available to students. But these practices should be a vital part of the education practice in the Waikato, and this function will be working to build capcapability to support quality delivery of arts and creative education to students in this region. As part of the Creative Waikato team, you will draw upon your practice and knowledge of the arts to help artists, arts organisations, teachers and schools develop their own capcapability so they can deliver arts and creativity to students in the best possible way.

Purpose
To support and strengthen the creative sector in the greater Waikato region with a focus on Creative Education
Key relationships
Internal: CEO, Team Manager, Creative Waikato staff, Board
External: Arts organisations, emerging and developing individuals in the arts sector, local arts champions, key stakeholders, established and professional individuals in the arts, community organisations, arts facilitators working with communities, facilities serving the creative sector (galleries, theatres etc).
Key Responsibilities
Elevate
   » Identify areas of capcapability development and deliver resources and support accordingly
   » Walk-in meetings with artists and art groups
   » Be knowledgeable of the sector and its needs/obstacles/strengths
   » Use initiative to deal with universal needs
   » Provide advice to artists and organisations around best practice
   » Lead and deliver Creative Waikato (CW) sector capcapability building projects in Education
   » Help design projects (in collaboration with the CW team and sometimes other stakeholders)
   » Plan projects through to completion
   » Communicate regularly with the CW team and any other significant stakeholders to ensure great results
   » Deliver workshops and facilitate group sessions
Connect
   » Be a go-to for information about creativity in the region. Be a connector and conduit - information gatherer and sharer. Not always have all the answers, but always ready to listen, connect and support.
   » Be present and accessible to the arts sector as a whole
Amplify
   » Ensure the stories of arts excellence, growth and success are captured, documented and re-told through our marketing channels and mainstream media.
   » Be a strong advocate for arts development in the Waikato
Collective
   » Work with the rest of the team on group projects or priorities as required. Have a collective and supportive approach to our challenges and successes
   » Share knowledge and insights with the team as needed.
Key Requirements:
   » practice in the NZ Education system
   » practice and knowledge of the Arts Curriculum at Primary and Secondary levels
   » practice in arts, creative and culture-related areas
   » capability to develop connections to arts communities in the Waikato
   » capability to connect networks of people together for collaborative results
   » Project management, time management and strong organisational expertise
   » Facilitation and training/teaching practice
   » capability to work with a high amount of autonomy and initiative (while also being able to ask for help)
   » Comfortable working independently or as part of a team
   » Excellent communication expertise and people expertise
   » A love of the arts and availability to be active in the community
   » Current drivers' license
Preferably, the ideal candidate will also have:
   » Existing connections to arts communities in the Waikato
   » An active arts practice
   » Community development practice
   » An established knowledge of a range of artforms, including Toi M?ori
