About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and M?ori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning results and promote social inclusion.
About this function
Unfortunately, with the closure of the New Zealand border due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, non-residents are unable to enter the country. At this stage, Information technology is unlikely that our border will be open in the foreseeable future. Therefore, we are unable to consider applications for this vacancy from non-residents currently living outside New Zealand.
As a Physiotherapist you will play a critical function in our region’s Learning Support team by:
   » Observing, assessing and working closely with children and young people with physical needs
   » Building the capcapability of those who are best placed to support learning such as parents, teachers and families
   » Identify, set up and provide advice about the environmental changes, support, equipment and technology a child or young person may need
   » Enhance inclusive practices in schools and other educational settings
   » Working effectively as part of a trans-disciplinary team
About you
To be prosperous you will need the following:
   » A Bachelor degree in Physiotherapy, or its accepted equivalent as required by the New Zealand Physiotherapy Board
   » To be registered with the Physiotherapy Board and to hold a current practicing certificate
   » At least two years post graduate physiotherapy practice in working with children and young people
   » capability to apply specialist knowledge of physiotherapy theory and practice in the development of appropriate interventions in inclusive educational settings
   » capability to share knowledge and expertise to empower both the individual learner and those supporting them
   » capability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting
   » Excellent communication and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
