Growing Up in New Zealandis a landmark project lead by the University of Auckland and managed by Auckland UniServices Ltd, that is following over 6,000 children and their families from late pregnancy until they are adults. Information technology aims to understand their needs, life practices and aspirations, and provides vital evidence to decision makers to help make New Zealand a greater place for our children. The study participants reflect the ethnic and socioeconomic make-up of New Zealand today and provide us with an accurate representation of the diverse practices of our tamariki. The primary focus of the Pacific Participant Engagement Coordinator function will be the day-to-day management of a field team. This varied and interesting position will also include activities focused on the lead of the Participant Engagement team. With a strong focus to engage with Pacific families from the cohort to maximise their involvement in the study. Complete field operations engagement and retention activities and gather interview data (use either an online tool e.g. digital software, face-to-face interviews and observations in private homes as required). There may be a need to travel to other parts of New Zealand from time to time, to conduct face-to-face interviews.
The key focus of this function will be participant engagement activities to ensure that the cultural diversity is represented across the cohort. Study participants continue to feel valued, informed and comfortable with their future involvement in this important longitudinal study.
Ideally you will have practice managing a team, community engagement practice and conducted interviews with children. As well as health, community or market research expertise and the capability to engage with participants in an enthusiastic and positive manner.
You will need to demonstrate an consciousness of cultural appropriateness when you engage with study participants and able to comfortably interact with families from diverse backgrounds. Ideally you will be a fluent speaker of a Pacific language. Information technology will be essential to understand and be committed to the cultural values of those from different cultures.
With excellent interpersonal expertise, your practice in working within your local communities and networks will be a great asset in this function. You will be a strong communicator and multi-tasker who appreciates the value of this important study. A clear command of written and spoken English is crucial to the success of this function. You will have a high level of computer expertise, technical expertise of the Microsoft Office suite and the capability to be trained in our Customer Management System.
You will need to have:
   » the legal right to work in New Zealand
   » a currentfulldriver’s licence
   » the capability to work 24 hours per week, which will include evenings and weekends
   » high level of Information technology proficiency using a laptop, software and web-located applications.
Depending on requirements of a specific data collection or retention phase, set rostered hours are likely to be conducted along with self-managed flexible hours.
