M? te t?nga | The function
The Statistical and Data Design functions are responsible for researching, designing, and implementing a range of innovative statistical, data and analytical solutions to support and inform all stages of the data and statistics lifecycle across Stats NZ.
The Senior Design Analyst function sits within the Design, Planning & Insights function. You will provide support in the form of expert guidance and advice to the Design and Planning teams and across the wider data ecosystem. In addition, you will be responsible for the provision of mentoring and coaching to staff across your team. You will also:
   » Design innovative processes, research techniques, methods, tools, standards, models, and packages etc. to support statistical and/or data production and services within Collection Operations
   » Contribute to the advancement of Collection Operations
   » Demonstrate a proactive consciousness of Health & Safety (H&S) in the workplace
Starting income: $89,177 – $101,767 negotiable

With a balance of developed soft skills and technical expertise, this function would suit someone who is analytical, innovative, adaptable, solutions focused and strives to find and deliver improvements to our ways of workings. Ideally you would have:
   » Hold or working towards master’s degree in mathematics, statistics, uscapability / user practice design psychology or related field or equivalent work practice
   » 3-5 years of significant qualitative research or analytics practice in emerging area of skills
   » Emerging specialism in expertise area – advanced expertise of significant concepts, frameworks, techniques, and practices
   » capability to apply international best practice and to advise on options for upgrading existing quantitative and qualitative standards
   » Able to mentor staff on new subjects/techniques – continuous development, leading networks
   » Developing strength in writing a range of technical and research documents
   » Understands, applies and manages compliance by others with Stats NZ’s information and data governance standards and protocols
   » Understands the Treaty of Waitangi’s relevance to the function as a public servant
   » Support initiatives to increase responsiveness to M?ori including actively working to better understand Te Ao M?ori and build relationships with Iwi and M?ori stakeholders
