Job Offer: Lecturer – Hauora M?ori:UniofOtagoJob description:Job DescriptionDEPARTMENT of PREVENTIVE and SOCIAL MEDICINEDUNEDIN SCHOOL of MEDICINE Applications are invited for a full-time Lecturer position in M?ori Health in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Dunedin School of Medicine at the University of Otago, New Zealand. Appointment level will be determined by qualifications and practice. Who we are The Department of Preventive and Social Medicine is a long-established academic centre for public health. Information technology has teaching staff in M?ori health, epidemiology, public health medicine, biostatistics, health policy, health promotion, environmental health, and occupational health. Preventive and Social Medicine is within the Dunedin School of Medicine, Otago Medical School, in the Division of Health Sciences, University of Otago. The Department is committed to being a leader in M?ori excellence, advancement and development within public health research, teaching and service. Preventive and Social Medicine also hosts the Ng?i Tahu M?ori Health Research Unit, led by Associate Professor Emma Wyeth. The Unit contributes to a wide variety of M?ori health research projects and initiatives within the Department, the wider university and communities. The Department has a strong research base. The Department offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate papers and teaches medical students at all levels of their course. Research students are supervised for Masters and PhD degrees. The function The prosperous applicant will be responsible to the Head of the Department. The prime functions of this position are to: » Teach hauora M?ori courses in the undergraduate and postgraduate public health programmes. » Engage in collaborative health research in their areas of skills and interest as part of the Ng?i Tahu M?ori Health Research Unit. » Eecure research funding. It is expected that the person appointed will work as a team member and colleague of the Ng?i Tahu M?ori Health Research Unit and contribute to its goals and activities. The person appointed will also be expected to supervise postgraduate research students and to contribute to the life of the Department. Skills and practice » PhD degree in M?ori Health, Public Health or a related discipline. » Proven track record in research that is commensurate with the level of appointment. » practice in teaching M?ori and/or Public Health at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. » knowledge and commitment to M?ori health advancement and the Treaty of Waitangi. » The capability to support teaching of other public health courses and research collaborations in the department is also preferred.
