About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry of Education. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education. Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and M?ori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning results and promote social inclusion.
The Performance and Quality team support and enable the work of the Learning Support teams to deliver effective services. This includes working alongside others to develop and implement new initiatives, lead workforce development through the provision of professional development and induction, managing contract s and funding for the sector, and providing data analysis to support continuous improvement. We work with others from across the ministry both locally and nationally.
About this function
The Practice and Implementation Adviser provides leadership abilities to shape quality effective services within Learning Support. They work with others across the organisation to build capacity and capcapability both within the Ministry of Education and externally. While the primary focus is within Learning Support, other contributions across the organisation are required.
Tasks specific to the PIA portfolio include the following:
   » A commitment to continuing practice in their specialist area and a availability to develop a high level of knowledge about other practice areas in each of Learning Support’s core services
   » Modelling and supporting the roll out of He Pikorua through their own practice and through supporting practitioners in both Learning Support and RTLB clusters across the region
   » Promotion and advocacy for best practice across all core services to ensure effective and efficient Learning Support services are being provided to tamariki, wh?nau and the sector; and
   » Supporting Professional Development and Learning (PLD) opportunities for practitioners across the region
About you
To be prosperous you will need the following:
   » The capability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information
   » The capability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting
   » Excellent communication and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga
   » Knowledge and relationships with M?ori communities, hap? and M?ori medium educators, and strength in tikanga M?ori and/or te reo M?ori, would be advantageous.
