The function
This is a great permanent, full-time opportunity to become a Lecturer and develop your career in teaching, research and service, whilst having the support ofEke Tangaroa – AUT’s M?ori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme. The prosperous appointee will teach across both our North and South Campuses and ideally be able to commence their new function 28 June 2021 (in time for the start of Semester Two – 12 July).
OurSchool of Sport and Recreationis seeking M?ori or Pacific scholars with skills within the domain of Sport and Recreation.
Lecturers teach across programmes as agreed with the significant Head of Department; we embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching where the student practice is optimised. You will also publish actively in your specialised field. Research development is well supported within the School. Over time you’ll also seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty/University activities.
You will join an open and highly collaborative school that supports the growth of its people. Our School hosts the Sport Performance Research Institute New Zealand (SPRINZ), one of New Zealand’s top-rated interdisciplinary Sport Research Institutes powered by dynamic and innovative researchers who are well connected with industry and producing applied research. SPRINZ has an unrivalled record for producing high-impact research to improve human health, sports performance and long-term athletic development. The School also hosts the Human Potential Centre (HPC). HPC has an outstanding track record in securing external competitive research funding and grants, published research, and postgraduate student success. The research centre consists of a dedicated team of teaching and research staff, all of whom are research experts and well respected in their chosen fields. Over the last 15 years, the Centre’s academic and research experts have been awarded external research funding from Health Research Council, Sport New Zealand, World Health Organization, local authorities, and commercial partners. HPC has established, and is recognised for, skills in a number of key health research areas, with a focus on positive health and wellbeing. HPC work collaboratively with researchers from connected NZ and international academic and government institutions. The Centre is part of the Sports Performance Research Institute of New Zealand (SPRINZ) group. We have a strong industry engagement profile across the sport, recreation and health sectors. In recent years we have had growing requests from industry partners to engage in research that recognises the significance of both M?ori and Pacific stakeholders. Information technology is critical for the advancement of significant and engaged research that we support and develop M?ori and Pacific academics – not just for AUT, but also for the communities we serve.

We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates of M?ori or Pacific genealogical descent. Please submit your full CV, along with a cover letter that outlines your interest and potential suitcapability for this function. Key criteriaas follows:
Qualification:
   » A PhD/Doctorate in Sport and Recreation related subjects
   » PhD/Doctoral graduation must have been within 3 years of application to this programme. Alternatively, current PhD/Doctoral students will have submitted their completed thesis for examination before starting their function.
Research and Teaching Interests:
   » Sport and Exercise Science, Exercise Science and Nutrition, Sport leadership abilities and Management, Outdoor Education, Health and Physical Education, and/or Coaching
Previous academic employment:
   » This must be your first full-time, permanent academic position in either a university or other tertiary education provider. You must also have no more than 5 years fixed-term contract academic teaching practice (in total) in a university or other tertiary education provider.
Start Date: You will ideally start by 28 June 2021. Interviews will take place end of May/start of June, appointments are then expected to be confirmed mid-June.
