Regional Director – Te Manawa Taki

Ko wai m?tou | Our Organisation

Te Aka Whai Ora - M?ori Health Authority is a newly established independent statutory entity responsible for enabling greater M?ori participation in the design and delivery of health services for the betterment of all. This will be achieved by embedding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi as central components of Aotearoa New Zealand's health reform.
Te Aka Whai Ora will play an essential function in enhancing M?ori rangatiratanga, ensuring everyone has the equitable access to healthcare and supporting wh?nau to take control of their own health and wellbeing. Te Aka Whai Ora will work in partnership with Manat? Hauora – Ministry of Health and Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand and enable Iwi-M?ori Partnerships Boards (IMPBs), M?ori health providers, iwi, hap? and M?ori communities to achieve M?ori health aspirations.
Te whiwhinga mahi| The Opportunity
The Regional Director - Te Manawa Taki will help to fulfill the Crown's obligations by leading, advocating for and embedding this health and wellbeing approach with their teams, Te Whatu Ora counterparts, Iwi M?ori Partnership Boards and service providers.
this function sits within the Public and Population Health Directorate and will work with the General Manager to achieve the aspirations of the Directorate's work alongside other groups in Te Aka Whai Ora and Te Whatu Ora.
You will partner with Te Whatu Ora to implement national level strategies, plans and directives to achieve national consistency with appropriate regional and locality-located customisation. The Regional Director is also regional and local leaders in the engagement of regional and local relationships with other agencies to maintain a constant and visible emphasis on welllbeing, avoidance and covering the social determinants of health.

You will have practice in the contribution and development of the implementation of operational plans that are set out by Ministers, the Board and Executive Leaders.
You will have an knowledge of health planning, particularly in a place-located approach and collective impact.

Ideally you will have:
   » skills in Iwi, Hap?, Marae, and M?ori community participation & engagement
   » practice in managing a diverse regional infrastructure for a national entity
   » An knowledge of the New Zealand health reforms agenda and Pae Ora Act 2022
   » An knowledge of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including how to apply Te Tiriti principles in a significant way in your function
   » Competency with te ao M?ori, tikanga, and te reo M?ori or a availability to lgain and grow
