Te Pouahi o Te Taitokerau Trust is seeking dynamic and practiced Trustees and Project Control Group Members.
The Trust is a kaupapa-M?ori led housing initiative that supports wh?nau, hap?, and iwi-M?ori in Te Taitokerau by providing practical solutions to navigate processes and mitigate housing development issues. The Trust supports M?ori-led housing projects to build their own homes, so that the health and wellbeing of wh?nau continues to strengthen now and into the future.

The prosperous Trustees will be joining the Trust at a critical time, as they are about to sign a $55million agreement with Te T??papa K?ra K?inga and Te Puni K?kiri. This includes building at least 80 new homes and providing infrastructure to support the development of at least 110 homes by 30 June 2025. The board will consist of five Trustees who can serve up to a term of three years.
Trustees need expertise and competencies in housing, finance, wh?nau/hap?/iwi landscapes, as well as strong communication expertise and ideally governance practice in a board environment. Trustees will be expected to be collaborative, effective communicators, and willing to devote time and energy to the function and kaupapa. You will act with honesty, integrity, in good faith, and not at the expense of the Trust’s interests and you will prioritise the collective good over individual wants.
We are seeking for diverse skill sets and practice across the board, and ideally you will demonstrate practice in strategic planning, policy development, and relationship building with key stakeholders.
The collective tasks of Trustees are to ensure that the trust acts consistently with its objectives, functions, and strategic intent, and that the Trust's functions are performed efficiently, effectively, and in a manner consistent with the spirit of service to Te Taitokerau wh?nau, hap?, and iwi, and in a financially responsible manner.
Independent Programme Control Group members (x2)
The Programme Control Group (PCG) is a critical part of the Te Pouahi initiave. As a member of this group you will be responsible for superviseing and guiding the Te Pouahi K?inga programme, reviewing and approving annual operational budgets, evaluating funding requests and proposals, and proposing changes to the programme as needed. You will also be responsible for negotiating funding agreements, approving the sale or transfer of Affordable Rentals, agreeing to construction loan terms, and ensuring funds are allocated appropriately for the success of the programme.
As a professional with demonstrated practice in housing development, finance, or a related field you will have an knowledge of Te Ao M?ori and how your expertise can contribute positively toward supporting wh?nau to build houses in a way that's significant for them. You will have strong communication expertise, be able to think outside of the box and be able to work collaboratively with other board members, staff, wh?nau, and community members.
The PCG meets at least monthly, ideally 10 working days before each Te Pouahi Trust Board meeting. Fees will be paid on a per hui basis, which incorporates an allowance for preparation and follow-up actions for each hui.
