The Real Estate Authority - Te Mana Papawhenua, is the independent government agency that regulates the New Zealand real estate profession. This is an organisation that seeks to improve the wellbeing of New Zealanders through superviseing the maintenance of professional standards and preventing consumer harm. Their purpose is to protect the interests of consumers buying and selling real estate, and to promote public confidence in the performance of real estate agency work. The Real Estate Authority (REA) licenses and provides regulatory advice and guidance for real estate professionals, manages complaints about licensed professionals' conduct, as well as producing high quality independent information to support people from New Zealand's diverse communities to navigate the property buying and selling process, including through the media and their consumer website, settled.govt.nz.
REA is seeking a proven senior communications advisor who would describe themselves as a generalist but also have practice in either stakeholder engagement or media management. Being in a smaller organisation, this position will offer the opportunity to engage on both strategic programmes and end-to-end projects, liaising with internal and external stakeholders through to a senior level. This means you will truly see the value of your work all over Aotearoa New Zealand.
In this function you will:
   » Be part of a dynamic Communications & Engagement team focussed on preventing consumer harm by empowering consumers and industry professionals alike through building consciousness and knowledge across a variety of channels,
   » Play a key function in delivering REA's external communications strategy, plan and activities,
   » Develop key messages, accountcapability documents, presentations and other highly engaging content for both external and internal audiences across multiple channels,
   » Manage media relations and identify risks and opportunities to build reputation in the media,
   » Support the delivery of REA's strategic engagement with the sector including consumer groups that represent diverse communities, government entities and the wider property system.
The ideal candidate will be proactive and organised in their work, able to build positive relationships with stakeholders and audiences. They would be someone who lends an practiced view to the team, able to provide solid guidance and development support to younger staff members and advice to leadership abilities when communications and engagement issues rise to the fore.
What you will bring:
   » An practiced lens to communications, ideally with practice in either stakeholder engagement or media
   » Excellent writing expertise, a master of plain English, able to understand and distil complex information (including with a legal/regulatory component) for a range of channels.
   » An capability to tailor communications and engagement for a variety of audiences with a strong diversity lens,
   » A proactive approach and the capability to build positive relationships with people at all levels including practice with managing vendor relationships,
   » The capability to provide sound strategic advice and influence senior level stakeholders,
