At Office of the Clerk we work at its core, providing advisory services to the House of Representatives, directly assisting the House and its committees with the business of Parliament.
Te t?ma –The team
Select Committee Services supports select committees with the administrative, procedural, and reporting back aspects of their work.
M? te t?nga –About the function
As Clerk of Committee you’ll play a lead function in superviseing services to one or more designated select committees. As well as attending all meetings and coordinating the committee’s programme of work, you’ll work closely with Members of Parliament, providing advice on matters to do with committee procedure, scrutiny of legislation and scrutiny of State Sector agencies.

   » Lead a small secretariat team
   » contact with departmental advisers and parliamentary counsel
   » Coordinate a select committee’s programme of work
   » Brief committee chairpersons
   » Provide advice on parliamentary procedures.
T? kete – What you will bring to the function
You’ll be building a strong, trusting professional relationship with the Chair of your committee, so you need to be tactful, diplomatic, and confident working with senior public figures. You’ll also need to be able to work with a variety of different personalities and have the capability to think on your feet, cope with pressure and deal effectively with the unexpected.
Alongside a tertiary qualification, you’ll have a few years’ work practice under your belt. You’ll need to be someone who really understands and appreciates the need for rules and processes as ensuring that correct procedures are followed is a critical part of this function. But this function isn’t just about following a set of rules – the way forward isn’t always clear, so you’ll also need sound judgement and decision making expertise for dealing with situations where there aren’t any black and white answers.

The appointing base income for this function is $95,989 to $105,980 per annum. Appointments will be located on expertise, practice and relativity (remuneration band extends beyond the appointing income range to account for tenure progression).
