About the function
Waikato Museum Te Whare Taonga o Waikato aims to be the best regional museum in Aotearoa New Zealand and is committed to sharing the art, culture, and history of Waikato through exhibitions, collections, events and educational programmes, and world class practices.
We are seeking for a motivated and practicedCollection Managerto join our team. The prosperous applicant will actively manage and care for the Waikato Museum collection as well as supporting the Museum's public facing exhibitions and services. The Collection Manager will ensure the Museum delivers high standards in collection documentation and collection care and increase access to and enjoyment of the Waikato Museum collection.
To fulfil the requirements of this busy, varied function We are seeking for a self-directed, motivated and flexible team player with excellent interpersonal and communication expertise.
expertise and practice
   » University degree and/or post-graduate qualification in Museum Studies or other significant area of study
   » Minimum 2 years' practice in a collections located function in a Museum or similar institution
   » Sound knowledge of registration, collection management and related disciplines
   » practice in loan management, database management (in particular Vernon CMS), and the usual record keeping of a museum
   » Knowledge of preventative conservation techniques
   » An knowledge of te reo Maaori, tikanaga Maaori and an knowledge of the dimensions of cultural, physical and spiritual care of Taonga Maaori
   » Full driver's license with the capability to drive a truck if required to.

Waikato Museum's exhibitions, events and programmes tell our stories from a regional and global perspective, and include visual art, social history, tangata whenua and sciencefrom touring exhibitions, and the museum's own collections.
On the banks of the Waikato River, in the heart of Hamilton's south-end cultural precinct, Waikato Museum's 13 galleries featuremore than 25 new exhibitions and 100 public events annually. Through this interactive programme we aim to engage and inspire our local and international visitors.
