Te ?huatunga a te t?ranga – About the function
The Waitangi Tribunal Unit provides a comprehensive range of services to the Waitangi Tribunal, a permanent commission of inquiry that inquires into and reports on claims submitted by M?ori under the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975.
The Researcher/Analyst position description spans three teams within the Waitangi Tribunal Unit. We are currently seeking hardworking, talented and motivated professionals to join the Inquiry Facilitation team.

To be prosperous in the function you will have strong verbal and written communication and analytical expertise, and the capability to plan and prioritise work. You will be able to use your initiative and be an effective communicator with a strong focus on customer service. You will thrive in a fast-paced work environment with multiple workstreams.
We are seeking for team players who are highly collaborative and able to inspire and build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate an knowledge of te reo and tikanga.
You will have a tertiary qualification in New Zealand history, M?ori studies, public policy, law or other significant disciplines, and preferably a post-graduate degree or significant professional practice.

Inquiry Facilitators are responsible for facilitating official Tribunal events, providing robust procedural advice, drafting judicial memoranda-directions, evidential analysis, and inquiry planning to support the Tribunal process.
Strong analytical expertise are required as is the capability to plan and prioritise work. You will be required to work closely with a wide variety of people including the judiciary, Tribunal members, claimants and counsel.
You will also be required to engage with and provide advice on a variety of inquiry material such as evidence and submissions. An knowledge of, and commitment to, the work of the Waitangi Tribunal is essential and an knowledge of te reo, tikanga and m?tauranga M?ori would be beneficial.
