Auckland Zoo is a not-for-profit wildlife conservation science organisation, dedicated to bringing people together to build a future for wildlife.
The Auckland Zoo Kaupapa M?ori Advisor function is a senior position within the Conservation Advocacy and Engagement department. The function will work to ensure the Te Puna Waiora - Auckland Zoo Te Reo M?ori Capcapability Plan and related strategic commitments and documents are adopted and implemented. this function is key to advising the road map for progressing Auckland Zoo's journey as a bicultural organisation. In this function you will have the collaboration, support and relationships with the Zoo's Lead Team, Auckland Unlimited' s Director – M?ori results, the Conservation Learning Facilitator – Kaupapa M?ori and colleagues across the zoo and Auckland endlessbroadly.
The key purpose are:
   » The implementation of the Te Puna Waiora Organisational capcapability plan
   » Provision of advice and specialist expertise, to the Auckland Zoo's Lead Team and a range of other zoo colleagues in support of our M?ori Responsiveness results and the Zoo's strategic vision and purpose
   » Key stakeholder relationship development and engagement from a tikanga M?ori perspective in support of the programmes and initiative in support of our conservation field work and research
   » Empower Auckland Zoo to increase its cultural capcapability across all areas of the organisation.
These responsibilities reflect the intersection in this function between wildlife conservation and Kaupapa M?ori that build significant, embedded and deep relationships that further develops our kaitiakitanga for Aotearoa's taiao. In addition, they will assist in the delivery of other conservation advocacy and engagement programmes and events to diverse audiences as required.

Qualifications
   » significant Level 7 tertiary level qualifications is preferred or least 5 years' equivalent significant practice in similar level M?ori results advisor function.
practice/expertise
   » Lived practice and expertise of Te Ao M?ori
   » Proficiency in Te Reo M?ori, kaupapa and tikanga M?ori
   » Proven relationships with M?ori in T?maki Makaurau
   » practice in engagement with Mana Whenua, Mataawaka communities
   » practice in supporting organisational M?ori results for communities
   » Effective delivery of internal M?ori responsiveness and capcapability
   » The capability to build, maintain and enhance strategic relationships with government agencies (such as Department of Conservation), iwi, hapu, whanau, M?ori and other stakeholder groups
   » Political sensitivity with a flexible, adaptable and pragmatic approach.
Please note: The function is 40 hours per week; however,this function requires flexible working, including some evening and weekend work, which may include public holidays as required to manage and deliver the function's portfolio. The position shall support and work flexibly across all other conservation advocacy and engagement teams as required
