A rare leadership abilities opportunity leading the delivery of the ground-breaking Kaipara Moana Remediation Programme (KMR) spearheaded by an equal partnership between Kaipara Uri, Auckland Council and Northland Regional Council in a Joint Committee. The Kaipara Moana is of special importance to tangata whenua due to it’s cultural, historical and spiritual significance. Information technology is a traditional food basket providing abundant fishing grounds and over 90% of snapper caught commercially off the West Coast. Information technology encompasses pastoral lands, waterways and is a habitat to migratory birds.
Responsible for the kaitiakitanga of the southern hemisphere’s largest harbour, the Pou T?taki will lead a bold and innovative programme, to restore the health and the mauri of the mighty Kaipara harbour which has suffered continuing environmental degradation mainly due to excessive sedimentation. The Pou T?taki will report directly to the Northland Regional Council’s Chief Executive agent and will provide trusted advice and support to the Joint Committee in achieving their vision as per the Memorandum of knowledge and Deed of Funding. The Pou T?taki will manage the Kaipara Maurikura team in the day-to-day operations with a view to decreasing sedimentation, improving freshwater quality and resilience from climate change in order to restore the vitality of the moana for future generations.
We are pursuing a professional and dynamic environmental manager with a deep knowledge of tikanga Maori and the capability to project Te Ao Maori view to champion biculturalism. The Pou T?taki must be able to drive results in line with this accelerated programme and able to provide vision and strategic leadership abilities to staff and others.
Ko koe – About you
   » A tertiary qualification in a significant discipline – law, planning, environmental science, business or another significant area – is desirable. The equivalent could have been gained through broad work practice.
   » At least 5 years senior practice in stakeholder engagement/relationship management including relationships with iwi groups and significant local and central government agencies.
   » Cumulative practice over 10 to 15 years across a diverse range of functions and responsibilities, including practice in delivery of operational projects particularly those focused on environmental results.
   » Significant practice in and demonstrated knowledge of working in Te Ao M?ori with Iwi, and hap? and familiarity with marae protocol.
