About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of the Sector Enablement and Support Group in the Ministry. We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whanau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Maori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning results and promote social inclusion
About this function
Our learning support delivery model ‘Te Manawa Tahi’ brings early learning services, kohanga reo, schools and kura together to work in collaboration with the Ministry, RTLB, iwi, other agencies and service providers to identify, coordinate an d facilitate learning support for learners and their whanau.
You will work with education services to achieve system shifts in education, with a particular focus on supporting Maori learners and their whanau, hapu and iwi to achieve excellent and equitable results.
About you
You will be able to demonstrate prosperous practice:
   » In leadership abilities and management preferably in the education sector
   » Managing changing environments with staff, other agencies, and the education sector
   » Working with families, whanau, education, health and social service agencies in developing and sustaining effective relationships
   » Creating a positive working environment using leadership abilities expertise, coaching, supporting and motivating others
   » Achieving results for children and young people through developing, managing, delivering, and monitoring quality services
   » Working with Maori, whanau, hapu, iwi, marae and community organisations. Fluency in Te Reo Maori and proficiency in Tikanga Maori is not a requirement but would be an advantage
