Puke Ariki has a national reputation for their joint library, museum and visitor centre situated in New Plymouth. Presently we have a great opportunity for a full-time permanent Collections, Curatorial and Exhibitions Lead position to join our team.
This key function supervises the operations of the collections, curatorial and exhibitions teams, including the Taranaki Research Centre. Supported by the Collections and Curatorial Coordinator and the Exhibitions Co-ordinator the function reports directly to the Museum Manager. You will be a key member of the Museum leadership abilities Team and will contribute across the big picture, as well as providing support and guidance on operational matters.
Working with the Museum Manager you will select, schedule and manage a calendar of temporary exhibitions across three spaces and the permanent gallery refresh programme. Your challenge will be to integrate the department teams and establish project teams to maximise efficiency and outputs while ensuring collection care standards are maintained and the visitor practice is exceptional.
The reach of this function is broad and substantial and to be prosperous your museum practice will need to be the same. You will need practice in the coordination of the processes of exhibition design, production and installation.
Fully conversant with contemporary museum practice your training is likely to be at a postgraduate level in Museum Studies or a significant related area. You will be a skilled people manager with broad project management practice and prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of staff. Puke Ariki supports the principals of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and practice in working in a bicultural environment would be well regarded.
