This position is pivotal to the success of the restoration and redevelopment of the Kauri Story and practice within it. Information technology is an exciting time to get involved. As a visionary, enthusiastic and talented leader, you will bring your practice, ideas and know-how to the team, ensuring the project delivers on its vision for our community and visitors to the Kaipara region.
Redevelopment of exhibition spaces will be a priority for the incoming Director, transitioning into establishing and mobilising operational requirements and optimising commercial benefits upon reopening of these new areas.
The Organisation:
The Kauri Museum has a clear vision and purpose as guardians of the Kauri story, past, present and future. The museum is situated on the Kaipara Harbour, in the community of Matakohe, centred 45 minutes' drive from Mangawhai in the east and Dargaville in the west. Between them are small rural communities, harbour settlements and villages, increasingly attractive to people seeking change from Auckland only 2 hours drive to the south. The Kauri Museum tells the story of the people and the place, inseparable from the story of the Kauri. The Museum's many exhibition spaces and historic buildings regularly feature new and inspiring exhibitions and public events drawing on the areas of science, tangata whenua, social history, and art.
The function:
As Museum Director you will be appointed and responsible to a board of trustees and for the implementation of the Kauri Museums Strategic and Annual Business Plans. The nature of tasks is quite broad, and includes many high-level tasks such as the following:
Staffing operations: You will be responsible for running the museum which includes planning, organising, staffing, funding, capital projects and directing the museum.
Financial operations: You will supervise all levels of a museum's operations such as its annual budget, financial and fundraising aspects, plus exhibition planning, programming and development.
Visitor and donor services: You will supervise the various domains of the organisation such as visitor services, education, sales, marketing, and manage the museum staff which may include conservators, curators, preparators, and others.
Cultural Development: knowledge and being able to apply the principles and practice of the Tiriti of Waitangi and its implications for the work of the Museum . The Kauri Museum Board is committed to working in partnership with our local iwi. We value staff who speak te reo Maori, have an appreciation of Maori values, and a working knowledge of tikanga Maori.

If you have a passion and commitment to the well-being of our communities then you just might be the leader We are seeking for.
