The Govett-Brewster Len Lye Centre is a contemporary art museum of the Pacific, located in Ng?motu New Plymouth, Taranaki, with an international reputation. The Gallery continues to build on its 50 year legacy of presenting significant contemporary art that explores and celebrates who we are - our communities, our cultures, our histories and our knowledge of the world. The Govett-Brewster is also home to the collection and archive of the Aotearoa New Zealand-born modernist filmmaker and kinetic sculptor Len Lye (1901-1980) acknowledged in the Len Lye Centre.
The museum is seeking an adjunct Len Lye Curator to support the research, development, and exhibition connected with the Len Lye Collection. Reporting to the Len Lye Curator, the focus of this function is to assist with the preservation, research and display of the works of Len Lye. Responsibilities include collection and archive access, research and scholarship, collection management, exhibitions and publications assistance.
We are seeking for a warm and professional communicator able to relate to a diverse range of people and act with a high standard of responsibility and accountcapability. You will also support the organisational values of Mana Tangata, Oranga Tangata, Kotahitanga and H?paitanga, and ensure that Council policies and procedures are adhered to.
prosperous candidates will have previous practice with collection management in a museum or gallery, be familiar with Vernon CMS or similar systems and the capability to work well within a team environment. Excellent organisational expertise and an interest in research and engaging with publics are desirable in addition to good communication expertise. A significant tertiary qualification is preferred.
