About our group and team
Learning Support is a critical part of Te Mahau Te Tai Runga (Te Mahau, South). We are charged with leading the education sector in ensuring that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, wh?nau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and M?ori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning results and promote social inclusion.

About this function
As a Special Education Advisor / Psychologist you will play a critical function in our region’s Learning Support team by doing the following:
   » Supporting parents and wh?nau, teachers and schools to meet the learning support needs of children and young people
   » Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with a range of professional partners, community and sector groups and support agencies to ensure that services are coordinated and effective
   » Enhancing inclusive practices in early learning services, schools and other educational settings
   » Assessing, collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring the implementation of individual (or group) intervention plans
About you
To be prosperous you will need the following:
   » Special Education Adviser – a Bachelor of Teaching or Post-graduate Diploma in Special Education / Educational Psychology
   » Psychologist – A Masters level tertiary qualification and a post-graduate Diploma in Educational Psychology or equivalent and to be registered under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and to hold a current practicing certificate
   » practice working with children and young people with learning needs in a classroom or other significant setting
   » practice of supporting other education professionals to meet the needs of children and young people with additional needs
   » Excellent communication and interpersonal expertise and an capability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
   » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga
