SOCIOLOGY, GENDER STUDIES and CRIMINOLOGY
SCHOOL of SOCIAL SCIENCES
Sociology, Gender Studies and Criminology is the largest academic unit in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Otago. To build on our success, We are pursuing to appoint two Lecturers/Senior Lecturers to join our team in January 2023. These functions are full time, permanent (confirmation path) positions.
Upon commencement of the positions, the prosperous candidates will be expected to contribute to several of the following areas of our curriculum, including Introductory sociology; Introductory and advanced criminology; Young people and society (with a specific focus on Indigenous youth); Public sociology; and Critical theory.
In time, the prosperous candidates will be expected to develop new undergraduate courses, including, but not limited to, Indigenous sociologies and ‘sociologies of dispossession’, which may cover topics such as migration, mobility, housing, intersectionality, urbanisation, ‘survivance’, ageing and land dispossession, among other themes.

We are particularly interested in candidates who draw from M?ori and/or Pacific epistemologies and practices in their research and teaching.
