PACIFIC TEACHING FELLOW – HEDC
HIGHER EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (HEDC)
Turning 150 years old in 2019, the University of Otago is New Zealand’s first and oldest University. Information technology has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. Information technology is also one of New Zealand’s largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of $1.6 billion and 4,000 full time equivalent staff located in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill.
The Higher Education Development Centre (HEDC) is an academic department that provides academic development to the University by contributing to the development of University policy on teaching and learning, as well as offering academic support and advice to staff and students. HEDC works in partnership with staff and students to advance, preserve and promote the ideals, expertise and values of higher education.
The function – Te mahi
We are seeking for a Teaching Fellow to support the delivery professional development courses aimed at enhancing academic pedagogy and practices related to Pacific staff and students in tertiary settings.
In this function you will contribute to teaching on culturally responsive practice under the supervision of an academic colleague. Key tasks for this function will include undertaking teaching preparation, running tutorials, workshops and assessment on Pacific consciousness and Cultural Competency topics.

Your expertise and practice – K? p?keka me k? wheako
The prosperous applicant will have expertise and practice of teaching and student learning at tertiary level as well as:
   » Bachelor's degree (a PhD would be an advantage).
   » expertise and practice of Pacific studies and Pacific peoples in the Aotearoa context.
   » Demonstrated bi-cultural competence in an indigenous Pacific culture.
   » Proven capability to work with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds, from all departments and divisions, and at all levels of the institution.
   » Excellent written and verbal communication expertise.
   » Bilingual with a Pacific language preferred, but not required.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for six months available from June 2022.
