Programme Facilitators – Probation agents -Gisborne

In Gisborne our Probation agents and Programme Facilitators work together to support people in our care to understand and address the causes of their offending and assist them to create crime-free futures. Using principles of manaaki, kaitiaki, wairua, rangatira, and whanau. Probation agents manage community-located sentences and orders, whilst also preparing reports for the Courts and New Zealand Pafunction Board. Programme Facilitators deliver a range of clinically designed therapeutic programmes, either individually or with a co-facilitator. These two functions work collaboratively to treat those in our care and management with respect, upholding their mana and dignity.

You will also need Full New Zealand Drivers License and a legal right to work in Aotearoa without restriction for a minimum of 24 months.

We’re looking for new team members who can actively listen and understand the people in our care and are keen to help them gain insight into their problem behaviours. To undertake this function, you will need to be comfortable walking alongside people on their journey while consistently reflecting on your own practice.
Life practice is important to us, along with an alignment to our values. You will also be able to demonstrate the following:
   » Excellent communication expertise with a natural capability to engage and build relationships
   » Cultural knowledge including working under a tikanga M?ori framework
   » Resilience and flexibility - no two days will be the same
   » Self- consciousness, insight, and wellbeing with a focus on strong work/life balance
   » knowledge of de-escalation and conflict resolution
To support you in the function, Information technology would be valuable to have an knowledge of individual and group behaviour, and/or significant tertiary education in psychology, social work, counselling or other significant tertiary qualification along with demonstrated practice within this or a similar related area.

So, what does a good Programme Facilitator look like? These are some of the qualities that will make you stand out:
   » An effective listener and communicator with the capability to build strong positive relationships with participants and other stakeholders
   » Knowledge of, and/or availability to lgain about M?ori culture, protocols and peoples and apply kaupapa M?ori practice in your work
   » Ideally have practice in delivering and facilitating therapeutic interventions, either individual or ideally, group therapy (not essential)
   » Comfortable having your practice reviewed and receptive to receiving regular constructive feedback with the confidence/maturity to grow and develop from this
   » Report writing practice

Starting salaries are between $58,359 and $61,648 with opportunities for progression.

As a Probation agent for Ara Poutama Aotearoa, you will work with people in our care and their wh?nau to address criminogenic behaviours and reduce reoffending.
You will contribute to public safety, viewing this through the lens of manaaki, positive relationships, and the uplifting of wellbeing of people in our care. By focusing on the wellbeing of the person who has come into our care and management, you will help reduce the chances of them returning to the justice system. You will treat those in our care and management with respect, upholding their mana and dignity.
We are seeking for people who:
   » are able to relate to people from a range of cultures and backgrounds
   » have excellent spoken and written communication expertise
   » can work in a team and motivate others
   » can remain positive and resilient in difficult situations
   » are able to think critically and assess information.
