The School of Geography (Te Iho Whenua) at the University of Otago is nationally and internationally recognised for the quality of our graduates and the impact of our research. The School supports graduate and postgraduate programmes in Physical and Human Geography and Environmental Management, as well as Planning and International Development.
Sustaincapability is an important research focus in the School, and the School hosts and supports the Centre for Sustaincapability. We mentor students who conduct excellent Honours, Masters, and PhD research. Our aim is to deliver globally significant teaching and research from our unique location in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The function – Te mahi
We seek a new, full-time, permanent academic colleague with skills in Physical Geography, to appoint as either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.
In this function, you will be expected to lead and contribute to learning, teaching and supervision, research, and enterprise, as well as academic citizenship activities in the School and University.
You will have a PhD in Physical Geography, ideally with a focus in hydrology or biogeography. The capability to contribute to teaching in geostatistics and geographic information systems would be desirable.
In addition to an capability to contribute to curriculum development and delivery, a strong publication track record is expected. Depending on appointment level, practice of securing competitive grant funding and prosperous postgraduate research supervision would be advantageous.
You will be responsible for:
   » Teaching physical geography in undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.
   » Growing an active research programme, publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals; obtaining external funding and supervising research students.
   » Contributing to the effective and efficient running of the School to meet its responsibilities within the University and wider community.
   » Contributing to the support of the University’s M?ori, Pacific, Equity & Diversity and Sustaincapability strategic frameworks.

This is a permanent, full-time (1 FTE), confirmation path position.
The appointment range for this function is: Lecturer ($83,652 to $100,050) or Senior Lecturer ($105,232 to $121,055).
