Parks and Community Facilities is the kaitiaki (guardian) of Auckland Council's portfolio of assets. These assets range from community buildings such as libraries, pools, and recreation centres, to outdoor places like our parks, sportsgrounds, and cemeteries.
In collaboration with many other teams in the council, our kaimahi not only develop and deliver programs, strategy and services that care for the special places of T?maki Makaurau and connect communities to nature, we plan, build, maintain and renew these assets to benefit Aucklanders now and for generations to come.
An opportunity for Manager Cemetery Services has arisen in our Regional Operations Team. In this function you'll be in the privileged position to champion and provide strategic leadership abilities of the Cemetery Services team, guiding them forward in our quest for continual improvement and service excellence.
We require someone to ensure that we are delivering a seamless cemetery service across Tamaki. This would require to you provide strategic oversight, management and development of a specialist team, wide-ranging relationship management, a keen sense of health, safety and wellbeing, and the capability to optimise a distributed workforce.
The next phase of the Cemeteries journey will require someone to work ?on? the business (as opposed to just ?in? it), there will be a high level of strategic planning and navigating the waka with politicians, council management, executive and with key stakeholders.

A high degree of business acumen will be needed to continue to deliver on the business improvement programme in place. The capability to convey complex business concepts/processes to a wide audience of internal stakeholders/managers/elected members is essential.
You will need to be comfortable sitting at, and leading hui with senior management and Council's executive.
Managing relationships will be integral to the success of this function, so we'll have a keen interest in your practice of working in partnership with a range of stakeholders and evidence of having created excellent relationships and results.
Not only will you be a savvy business operator you will have a high degree of empathy as you lead an amazing team of kaimahi and engage with whanau at pivotal moments in their lives.
