Te Kura ?kau Taitoka/The University of Otago College of Education is dedicated to the enhancement of educational practice through high quality teaching, scholarship, research, professional leadership abilities and community service, to benefit mokopuna, ?koka, kaiako, wh?nau and the wider community (in local, national and international settings).
We are committed to working closely with mana whenua, iwi, hap? and M?ori organisations, and m?tauraka M?ori has become an integral part of teaching and research across the institution. Our relationship with K?i Tahu as mana whenua within their takiw? of Te Waipounamu and, through this, as the University's principal Tiriti partner is especially important.
Te mahi/The function
We seek to appoint a permanent Kairuruku Ritenga Utua/Tauira M?t?mua Ritenga Ngaio – Professional Practice Fellow/Senior Professional Practice Fellow in Primary Education. Our hope is to attract candidates who can teach from an integrated curriculum perspective.
The prosperous candidate will bring special skills in te reo and tikaka M?ori in the primary education sector, and ideally, skills in Pacific education. Flexibility in teaching in a variety of areas of the curriculum and a availability to contribute to a range of our papers and programmes is highly desirable.
Responsibilities of the function include:
   » Supporting teaching in the primary education curriculum of the Bachelor of Teaching and Master of Teaching and Learning degrees. This includes preparation, assessment, teaching and paper administration tasks under the supervision of the paper coordinators and the Primary Programmes Coordinator.
   » Supervising students on professional practice placements.
   » Contributing to the academic and professional life of the Primary teaching team, and the College more broadly, by applying and sharing expert expertise in the professional discipline of education.
   » Supporting the development of te reo and tikaka M?ori in our papers and programmes.
   » Consulting and working with the College of Education Associate Dean (M?ori), Pasifika Coordinator, and other staff to ensure that papers and programmes develop cultural confidence and competence in graduates.
   » Supporting noho marae for initial teacher education students.
   » Supporting tauira M?ori and Pacific students across our papers and programmes.
   » Commitment to engaging with k? hap? o ?t?kou r?naka – values, tikaka (processes), kawa (rules of cultural practice), dialect, and traditions of our manawhenua and K?i Tahu iwi.
You will be supported through a collegial academic environment, an active and dynamic research culture, and through efficient professional services across the University.
The opportunity exists within this position to pursue doctoral study at the College of Education, although this is not a requirement of the function.

To be prosperous in this function, you will have:
   » New Zealand teacher registration and current full practising certificate.
   » A significant professional qualification in teaching.
   » A Master's degree.
   » capability to teach pedagogical content expertise and support paper and programme development related to te reo and tikaka M?ori.
   » capability to teach into a range of other curriculum areas.
   » significant professional practice in a primary school setting.
   » Evidence of an capability to work well with students and staff from diverse academic and cultural backgrounds.
   » practice in M?ori and/or Pacific education.
   » Proficiency and capcapability in te reo and tikaka M?ori, and established connections with M?ori and/or Pacific communities.
   » Demonstrated commitment to the articles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and to equal opportunity.
   » expertise of Te Marautanga o Aotearoa is desirable for this function.

This is a full-time (1 FTE), permanent position available from early January 2024.
