M?ori Chaplain 0.6FTE
The position is 0.5FTE at Dunedin Hospital and 0.1FTE at Wakari Hospital

The Interchurch Council for Hospital Chaplaincy (ICHC), which is a collaboration of a broad range of churches, is committed to providing Christian Chaplains within Aotearoa New Zealand's healthcare environment.
As Chaplain you will be part of multidisciplinary healthcare teams, working with other Chaplains across the hospital providing holistic care to all.
You will gain practice and provide spiritual care to patients from every culture, life stage, denomination, faith-orientation, beliefs, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.
We seek to further enhance our Treaty of Waitangi partnership and relationship with M?ori patients, whanau and staff. We support the right of M?ori patients, if they so choose, to be ministered to in te reo M?ori and Karakia.
Key responsibility areas:
   » Deliver spiritual healthcare to patients suffering ill health or accident, to their wh?nau, and to staff within a public hospital
   » Respond to crisis calls from hospital staff, patients and wh?nau including “on call” hours
   » Regularly, and on request, visit wards and units to provide spiritual care and attend appropriate meetings within the hospital as guided by your Lead Chaplain.
   » Conduct spiritual and religious services and rituals in the hospital
   » Collaborate in multi-disciplinary meetings, processes and contexts
   » Teaming up and working positively as a unified Chaplaincy team in each Hospital
   » Supporting colleagues within regional chaplaincy teams and across the motu
   » Training and supervision of Volunteer Chaplaincy adjuncts as guided by the Lead Chaplain.
Cultural Competence:
   » Demonstrate a level of competency in Te Reo Maori and be able to converse in Te Reo Maori.
   » Demonstrate knowledge of shared knowledge of each other's cultural beliefs, values and Tikanga. (Tangata Whenua M?ori & Pakeha) within Te Ao M?ori.
   » Display a availability to participate in formal/informal Whakatau/Powhiri processes consistent with M?ori customs, practises, and protocols. E.g., new Chaplains, Locums, VCAs
   » Display knowledge of Karakia and Te Ao M?ori.
   » Demonstrate knowledge of the functions of participants connected with hui. (Staff hui), other gatherings, Kaumatua, Kai-Karakia, Kai- Karanga, Kai-Korero, Mihi, Whaka-whanaungatanga.
   » Demonstrate an knowledge of Te Ao M?ori traditions, Customs, Values, Principles and Tikanga
   » Demonstrate knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and its principles.
   » knowledge of group dynamics and challenges within a multi faith environment with differing needs and expectations.
