Consultant Paediatrician
Southland Hospital, Invercargill
Permanent, full-time

Southland Hospital is the base hospital for a wide geographical area, creating enormous scope for variety in the work of a talented professional like you. located in Invercargill, a small city, you'll have the freedom to enjoy an excellent work/life balance and overall lifestyle. If you have a family, they'll also enjoy the great community spirit, sporting opportunities and schooling available.In this function you'll be exposed to a wide and varied pathology and supported by strong links with tertiary providers all over New Zealand.

You will provide comprehensive general paediatric inpatient and outpatient care and support a level two Neonatal service with up to 1,600 deliveries per annum. Our team also provides outreach/rural outpatient clinics in Gore and Queenstown (one of New Zealand's major tourist destinations, which is a comfortable 2 hour drive from Invercargill).

Southland Hospital is part of the Southern District Health Board fostering close working relationships with colleagues at Dunedin Hospital and in particular with the team who work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the closest tertiary provider and referral centre. The Paediatric Department is actively involved in teaching, and we are affiliated with the Dunedin School of Medicine, actively supporting 5th and 6th year medical students, and acting in Senior Lecturer functions with the School of Medicine.

Whether you're a new Consultant or Somebody with many years of Specialty Paediatrics under your belt, you will find this function, team and department the perfect place to feel valued. We are currently expanding our team. You will be joining a dedicated team of four other General Paediatricians with sub-speciality interests with whom you will share a 1:5 on call roster. Our team is ably supported by Senior House agents, Registrars and an practiced, reliable nursing staff.

It's really important to us that you're a Specialist who believes that the patient is at the centre of all that you do, actively including family/whanau as a standard part of your practice. Your communication expertise, with patients and your colleagues will be excellent, and your capability to contribute within a positive team environment will be essential. You must have completed your specialist training and be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand. The position offers an attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance and continuing medical education (CME) allowance.

Located in the lower South Island, the Southland region is home to two of New Zealand's national parks offering opportunities for tramping, internationally acclaimed fishing and easy access to four excellent ski fields. Covid vaccination requirements
