About our group and team
The Strategy Planning and Governance (SPG) group help coordinate and supervise organisational planning and strategy, and specific priority initiatives. We work with Ministers to support delivery of the Ministry’s work programme across the education system. We provide advice and facilitate communications and risk management across the organisation to foster public trust and confidence.
The Communications team is critical to the Ministry. We lead all engagement with the media, and manage all the Ministry’s internal and external communications, digital and online communications, publications, branding and communications design, with a focus on M?ori partnerships and Pacific peoples. This is an exciting, fast paced and dynamic working environment and we have a great team focused on putting ?konga | students at the centre of all we do.
About this function
The Kaitohu – Advisor Internal Communications works in a small, high-performing Corporate Communications team to share the Ministry’s strategic narrative through a variety of digital/traditional channels.
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about writing, to proactively seek and share timely stories within our organisation which demonstrate the Ministry’s purpose and strategic priorities.
this function is the perfect pathway for someone who wants to develop a wide-ranging skill-set to advance their career in communications.

Key accountabilities of the position include the following:
   » Looking for ways to enhance employee engagement and build trust, through good news stories, responsive two-way communications and timely information
   » Joining-up approaches and priorities, across key internal communications projects, to deliver consistent and targeted messages
   » Working in partnership with M?ori to incorporate Te Tiriti o Waitangi partnership principles into Ministry internal communications
   » Developing and publishing timely and topical content for the Ministry’s intranet and supporting the development of a weekly e-newsletter for managers
   » Developing strategies to enhance uscapability and increase readership and engagement on internal communications channels
About you
Working as part of our dynamic team you’ll need the following:
   » To be passionate about corporate storytelling, with the capability to communicate clearly and with impact, using various channels e.g. web, photography, video and more
   » The courage, curiosity and self-consciousness required to build networks and work collaboratively across an organisation – you’ll know how to provide excellent service to clients
   » To be able to keep your cool under pressure and have organisational and multi-tasking superpowers
   » A deep knowledge of why equitable results for M?ori learners are critical and be able to demonstrate how you can support this in your work
   » An appropriate qualification and preferably, some practice in a comparable communication function
