As Director of Te Ngira, within Te Whare W?nanga o Waikato, the University of Waikato, you will have a strong research profile which includes a track record of leading large-scale research programmes. You will also have practice of working with multi-disciplinary research teams on externally funded programmes and you will play a major function in supporting bids for new research grants from such sources as the Marsden Fund, the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Employment, the Health Research Council and the National Science Challenge as well as international funding agencies. You will be an practiced organisational leader, capable of driving and aligning the ambitions of the Institute and your staff over your tenure as Director. Exceptional confidence in a public-facing function is a must – the relationships you establish will have governmental and international status. You will hold a PhD with skills in one of the following areas: demography, population studies, migration studies, population health or other significant discipline. Applications are especially welcome in areas aligned to the Institute’s core research themes of Population Change, M?ori and Indigenous Populations, Migration, and Population Health and Equity. Ng? k?rero m? te t?ranga – About the function The Director of Te Ngira offers a senior leadership abilities and public facing function within the country’s only population focused research institute. You will play a major function in continuing the development of Te Ngira, including assuming overall responsibility for establishing and maintaining significant relationships with the leaders of cognate research institutes, other significant unit leaders such as Directors, Pro Vice Chancellors, Deans and Heads of School within the university, leaders in significant agencies in Aotearoa, and overseas and external stakeholders and end-users. The Director function will include primary leadership abilities and management responsibility for all Institute staff; for the Institute’s strategic direction, project management, funding and financial activities; as well as for the Institute’s academic research, teaching and supervision activities in addition to being responsible for a significant portfolio of externally funded research activity. income will be dependent on academic rank at appointment, and qualifications, skills and practice. On completion of the Director term then the prosperous applicant will remain as an academic member of Te Ngira. Ko wai m?tou? – Who are we?
