K?rero m? te t?ranga – About the function
Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington is inviting applications for a Kaiakiaki/ M?ori Engagement Advisor to join the ?whina team (M?ori student support services). ?whina’s purpose is to provide a culturally safe, positive and holistic practice for tauira M?ori that encourages cultural confidence and academic success through a Kaupapa M?ori framework.
This is a permanent full-time position within a supportive team that supports a work life balance.
? p?manawa – About you
This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting M?ori students during their educational journey. You will be comfortable working with M?ori students from diverse backgrounds, providing one on one support and advice and organising and delivering workshops and events. As a highly organised, innovative and self-motivated individual, you will have proven practice of collaboration and communication across diverse cohorts.
This would be a great opportunity for new M?ori graduates or those who are nearly finished their degree.
There can be some flexibility around a start date.
Key Requirements:
   » Sound knowledge of tikanga M?ori
   » Knowledge and knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in an educational context
   » Knowledge of the university or tertiary education environment and issues relating to M?ori students
   » The capability to build and maintain strong robust relationships
   » Sound knowledge and knowledge of te reo M?ori and practice working within the tertiary sector is advantageous
