Wellington is a lively city with a thriving cultural life, talented people, cutting-edge businesses, and a busy centre of government. Arts, culture and creativity are important to Wellingtonians and give us a strong sense of identity, The Council has identified that arts and culture are a strategic priority for the development and promotion of Wellington as a creative city.
Council has adopted the Aho Tini 2030 - Arts, Culture and Creativity Strategy that is designed to further support the arts and the artists in the Capital. The strategy aims to build on our rich cultural traditions and identity of our capital city - Information technology focuses on access and inclusion in the arts sector, higher visibility of Ng? Toi M?ori, the success of the city's artists and arts organisations, and activating the city's places and spaces.
The Senior Arts Advisor is a key function in the Creative Capital business unit responsible for leading the development and delivery of key projects that align with the Aho Tini goals and priorities. You will also provide advisory support to organisations and individuals to encourage participation in arts and creative activity in the city as well as work across WCC, Council Controlled Organisations (CCOs), and with mana whenua to develop and deliver projects that will enhance Wellington's reputation as a creative leader.
You will contribute to artistic expression and development and the creative life of the city through arts advocacy, leadership abilities and specialist advice to artists, organisations and the Council. You will be a key point of contact for public art activity in Wellington, work with Toi P?neke Arts Centre to support the gallery's exhibition programme and be involved with the Council's City Art Collection.
If this interests you, you will need to have:
   » a background in visual arts and/or public art (five years minimum)
   » practice in planning, managing and evaluating arts projects
   » strong relationship management expertise
   » a significant tertiary qualification in the arts, museum or similar.
