Te wh?inga roa: The opportunity
This is such an exciting and transformational time to join our newly formed Mataaho Aronui – M?ori Strategic results Group, responsible for providing WCC with a strategic M?ori voice and increased internal capcapability whilst raising its prominence within the organisation.
We are building our future team, focussed on three key M?ori specific areas:
   » M?ori Strategic Partnerships
   » Maori Strategic Advice
   » M?ori Success
This will be the first step in supporting and enabling WCC to strengthen our relationships, presence and intelligence, so that M?ori are engaged proactively in Wellington’s future coupled with enabling the whole organisation to contribute to the effective implementation of our services, ensuring we are aligned to our wider goals for M?ori – meeting the principles of the Tiriti o Waitangi.
These are newly created functions- one function sits in the M?ori Partnerships Team and the other function sits in the M?ori Strategy Team. In both the functions, you will assist in the development of business plans within the connected work programmes and driving their implementation.
As the Senior Advisor in the Partnership’s teams, you will be providing guidance and advice to the organisation from an ao M?ori view and elected members when engaging with iwi, help manage the relationships and work with M?ori to enable council to understand and meet their needs and aspirations.
As the Senior Advisor in the Strategy team, you will provide specialist te ao M?ori guidance on strategies and policies and provide advice and guidance on the implementation of services, projects and initiatives. In both functions you will be well-versed with our mana whenua partners’ strategic priorities and M?ori aspirations and will be championing these through your everyday contact points.
Te tangata e tika ana: About you
We are seeking for people with a credible practice in creating and actively seeking better results for M?ori. You can converse in basic te reo M?ori; you will have a sound knowledge of Te Ao M?ori and its application to local government, you’ll enjoy utilising your knowledge to engage with iwi and whanau to ensure our mahi enhances our policies and strategies and nurtures our relationships with mana whenua. You will have the capability to identify, build and actively manage relationships, valuing diverse perspectives and practices. You will be a confident communicator, relationship builder and an influencer who can champion change and kaupapa M?ori within an organisation.
