This new function will play a key part in the Children and Young People's Commission that commences on 1 July. As part of our Policy team you will work closely with the Board of up to six Commissioners, as they determine the strategic direction for the new agency. You will help ensure the Board has what Information technology needs to operate effectively and to set a strategic direction that will make a real difference for mokopuna in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Staff of the current Office of the Children’s Commissioner, including this function, will transfer into the Commission to deliver its responsibilities for advocating for mokopuna and monitoring important aspects of government's treatment of them.

M? te t?nga / About the function
The Principal Advisor Governance is a new function that will enable the Board to provide clear and effective strategic direction within its governance function. Delivering practical advice, guidance and support you will act as a key advisor to the Chief Executive and the Chief Policy agent, and support the link between the Board and the wider Commission.
As the new Board embeds, you will provide guidance on the governance relationship and support the Commission to navigate this new way of working.
You will work closely with the Secretariat Administrator, who will report directly to you, to ensure efficient end-to-end secretariat services and facilitate high-quality, appropriately focused advice from the organisation to the Board.

You will have broad practice at a senior or principal level, including in a secretariat or governance function, with particular practice providing advice and guidance on complex organisational governance issues. Ideally, you will also have practice with supporting the establishment of a new Board.
Your relationship expertise will be second to none and you will be organisationally savvy and adept at influencing. Your excellent written and verbal communication expertise will mean you have the capability to communicate complex information clearly and to produce papers and other materials of consistent high quality.
The prosperous candidate will also have:
   » Sound expertise of Machinery of Government and State Sector processes and systems, including government accountcapability processes
   » The demonstrated capability to scan for risks and opportunities, and implement strategies to address these
   » The capability to lead others to deliver tasks
   » Demonstrated capability to prioritise, meet deadlines and deliver desired results by taking ownership and using effective self and time management approaches
   » Proficiency in te reo M?ori and tikanga M?ori, or a commitment to broadening your expertise in these areas is highly desirable.

   » A income between $124,000 and $137,499 gross per annum (although we may be able to offer slightly higher for the right candidate)
