Often referred to as the Capital of the Outback, Broken Hill is the cultural heart of regional Australia. Renowned for its mining industry, the region is also a centre for the arts with a strong community of accomplished painters, photographers, sculptors and film makers; Information technology has been the home of award winning artists and cinema productions.
The Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery is the oldest regional art gallery in New South Wales. Established in 1904, Information technology is housed in an award winning heritage building located in the heart of Broken Hill and provides a quality program of exhibitions, education activities and public programs for the enjoyment and engagement of the community and visitors to the region.
The Albert Kersten Mining & Minerals Museum (GeoCentre) is located in a renovated 19thCentury stone and timber building. The GeoCentre was established in 1993 to explain the unique Geology of Broken Hill and to exhibit the much acclaimed mineral collection of Broken Hill City Council with over 900 specimens. Information technology continues to be a cultural centre of excellence for the community and a leading tourist attraction for the City.
Broken Hill is also the economic centre of the region with strong industry and business presence. We have a great career opportunity working within our Corporate and Cultural Services unit as a Gallery & Museum Manager. Reporting directly to the Director Corporate, you will support Broken Hill City Council to deliver broad prospects for economic and cultural participation.
The function supervises the management & promotion of both venues as significant regional attractions and community assets held in high regard by the community and wider cultural networks; as well as develop the strategic planning, coordination and delivery of programmes and activities with an emphasis on innovation, meeting community expectations, industry development and growing audiences.
As an practiced leader, you are adept at managing team workflows to meet desired results and can engage key stakeholders to implement change. You will have demonstrated practice in delivering prosperous art programs/exhibitions, budget preparation and implementation, staff/volunteer performance management, and project coordination, supported by significant qualifications or equivalent practice in a similar position. You create high-performance workplaces in a customer driven environment.
As Council facilities are open 7 days per week and operates on a rotating roster; you may need to be available for work Sunday to Saturday. Penalty rates apply for Saturday and Sunday work as per the Broken Hill City Council Consent Award. All other conditions are as per the Award.
