Kia ora! We're looking for a dynamic, multi-skilled person to take charge of our hospitality offering by running our Vogelmorn cafe and bar, as well as assisting the Manager. This is a diverse and exciting function with plenty of room for growth and creativity.

Vogelmorn Community Group Charitable Trust (VCG) formed in 2014 as a custodian of the bowling club at 93 Mornington Road, Brooklyn. VCG owns and runs this venue for the community, along with the neighbouring Council-owned Hall and green. We strive to be inclusive, sustainable, community-driven and creative, and are working towards being zero waste.

People from the area and wider Wellington use the spaces for dance classes, music gigs, birthday parties, theatre rehearsals and much more. We run our cafe four mornings a week, and host the iconic Damascus Syrian restaurant three evenings a week.

Listing description Barista, bartender, adjunct

Barista - We're looking for someone who can work autonomously in running the Vogelmorn Cafe. You'll have support from the Manager, however you'll be the head honcho on a day-to-day basis. Your responsibilities in the cafe will include:

Bartender / Duty Manager - We're re-vamping our bar to create a space that invites locals to come together to share music, conversation and ideas, and have a safe and nurturing space for our community to hang out.

Manager's adjunct - During the quieter moments of the cafe & bar, you can jump in and assist our Manager. There's plenty of room for you to explore an area that might be of interest to you - for example, music, poster design or interior design. You could help develop the programme and organise an event, create digital comms content, enhance a space, respond to email enquiries, show a potential hirer around, assist with bookkeeping (opportunity to lgain Xero), etc.

Overview of tasks:
   »
Be welcoming host to guests and visitors; maintain a fun and safe atmosphere for patrons; nurture friendly relationships with customers to increase loyalty and boost our reputation
   »
Work with Manager to develop food and drinks menu located on customers' preferences and feedback
   »
Prepare and serve food and drinks
   »
Inspect stock before opening to ensure that adequate supplies are available; inventory supplies and order new stock as needed; receive delivered supplies and verify items and quantities are correct.
   »
Be the primary, sole charge, duty manager for both regular and one off events
   »
Create effective schedule to ensure appropriate staffing and arrange cover as needed
   »
Keep spaces welcoming, clean and tidy and alert Manager when maintenance or repairs are needed
   »
contact about the space with the Manager, tenants and hirers
   »
Keep licenses updated and in line with current legislation
   »
Work with Manager to plan, promote and deliver an exciting and creative programme of events
   »
Work with Manager on promotion with clear & attractive signage and digital content
   »
Assist the Manager with hosting, queries, admin, bookkeeping and other tasks as required
   »
Report quarterly to Manager.
