The Sector Enablement and Support Group is the key interface between the Ministry and schools, wharekura, education providers, and communities. About this function This is an opportunity to use your schooling operational practice and advisory expertise to make a real difference to the transition of secondary school students into further education, training and employment. To be prosperous, you will need to have knowledge of secondary schooling, curriculum and significant education work programmes, be an excellent communicator, writer and analyst, with proven expertise in building and managing strong, effective relationships. The Senior Adviser Secondary Transitions Support will focus on ensuring policy and service design is informed and enabled by excellent operational information and insight. You will be engaged in supporting our regional staff to enable improved achievement, retention, transitions and progression of young people from secondary school into further education, training and employment. You will also develop and lead assigned portfolio areas. The Senior Advisor will work within the Secondary Transitions team to: » lead system-wide improvements and assigned programmes to support learners to move through education to further education, training and employment for frontline services and strengthen secondary transition pathways » review and respond to policy (including operational policy), supporting the preparation of internal and ministerial advice across the secondary-tertiary interface » review and respond to official correspondence and OIAs, and develop Reports, Briefings and connected documents. » maintain stakeholder communications across Secondary/Tertiary networks » advise and support regional Ministry teams on initiatives and overall effectiveness under secondary tertiary and transitions pathways and inform the sharing of good practice and programme development » monitor effectiveness in raising the achievement rates for young people, key priority learners and those at-risk from disengaging from education » ensure the alignment of secondary transition support across significant regional Government agencies. About you To be prosperous in the function, you will need the following: » The capability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga » Knowledge of secondary schooling, curriculum and significant education work programmes and a significant tertiary qualification and schooling practice » practice providing high-level advice and managing programmes of work » An capability to negotiate with peers and seniors to ensure the delivery of written material and respond to requests » High-level capability to write with clarity, present cogent arguments, and deliver messages across a range of formats » High-level analytical expertise that define a problem, evaluates alternatives, finds a solution, and makes effective decisions » Advanced influencing, relationship management and stakeholder engagement expertise » You’ll be joining a collaborative, high-performing team with a culture of constructive, open-minded debate who work together to implement effective, positive change. this function is an integral part of our team, providing support and leading key pieces of work, building relationships across the wider organisation to deliver Ministry priorities.
